Cortez Profited $12,000 On His First Mobile Home Deal And Went From Skeptic To Believer

Cortez is one of our rockstar accelerator students that’s doing some amazing things. Cortz and his wife just closed a big wholesale deal where the turned $8000 into $20,000.

He had talked to maybe 100 to 150 people and was skeptical that his attempt at mobile home investing would even work. So he decided to drop his asking price from $30,000 to $20,000 and send a message out to his prospects. One lady got back to him saying she was interested in taking a look.

She took her husband over to check the home out because he works in home improvement. They sent Cortez a list of everything that was wrong with it and offered him $18,000 for it. Cortez responded with $22k. They replied with $19k. And then finally they settled on $20,000.

So in this blog we want to share a little bit of our conversation with Cortez, about how he gradually turned form a skeptic into a believer, and what it was like working with us through our accelerator program.

Disbelief and skepticism in the beginning

Before joining us, Cortez had become skeptical of real estate investing gurus and programs because he and his wife had recently been burned by one that they had enrolled in. It was a bad experience and an expensive mistake.

He discovered us on YouTube along the way and liked our content because there were a lot of shorter videos, and it was quicker to get the information. Also, because they had been burned before Cortez had his guard up and his ego was getting in the way by telling him that he already knew what works and what doesn’t.

But somehow our content spoke to him in a way that hit different.

“I was like, ‘Oh this is a young black couple. They got 10 minute videos. Let me check it out.’

So I watched it and I was like, ‘I’m feeling these people. let me watch a couple calls.’

I watched a couple more and I said, ‘Victoria, check this out.’ And she started watching. She was like, ‘We need to get with them.’”

And that’s how they joined Trailer Cash Academy.

It’s funny because when he first joined Trailer Cash Academy, we got on a call to introduce ourselves to Cortez and Victoria. But Cortez was a little iffy about the whole process.

He said he wasn’t too sure about mobile home investing. And even as we spoke, he didn’t seem too motivated. He was kind of like ‘Well, I drive by the mobile home parks anyway, I guess I could go in there.’

He had his guard up, his ego getting in the way and just a general skeptical approach to the business. So we wanted to know what made him switch gears and start trusting the process.

“To be honest, it was a Voxer call with Jay.

He was telling me how he was always grinding, and he’d get up in the morning and do his spiritual stuff and work out and get to grinding man. And I told myself, I was like, ‘If Jay can do it. I can do it.’”

“When I was talking to you, Jay, at first it was like, ‘Okay this is another accelerated thing I’m going to have to pay money for.’ And I was already burnt. So I was just skeptical. Victoria really was into it, but I still was set back man. I ain’t gonna lie to you. I really was.

I was like,’They keep saying Voxers this and that, and they’re not gonna respond. I’m going to end up on my own. They’re going to send me some courses and that’s going to be the end of it.’ And that’s how I felt.

But you responded to my first Voxer. You responded to my second one. You responded to my third one. After you responded to my fourth one, I was like, ‘Okay, this dude is in this with me.’”

Guys, we’ve been burned ourselves and we know all about the courses. And we’ve invested in every single one before we started up on our mobile home investing journey. We always tell our students you’ve got two mentors (us) that have your back.

The biggest thing is being engaged with us. Because we’ve seen that the people that we hear actively, the ones that are showing up on our mastermind calls, being engaged, those are the ones that are seeing the best results.

Clearing the head trash and closing the first deal

As Cortez and Victoria stuck with us, applied what we were teaching and saw success Cortez said he realized something about himself that’s going to help him find more success in the future.

“It made me stop talking and start listening. Basically, Victoria’s the emotional one okay. If something’s not going the way it should, she’s going to feel it.

And so she was getting down and I saw that in her and I told her, ‘I will have this place sold before the beginning of the year. I’m going to do everything in my power to sell this before the beginning of the year.’ And she was like ‘Fine, okay.’ She was like, she wasn’t really feeling it.

It might have been one whole month and we didn’t really get no… we had two real bites, but both of them fell through. And I was just like, ‘Okay, I’m not gonna let myself get down.’

I saw her, she was getting down. And every morning I’d wake up and say, ‘Look, I don’t care what your energy is man. I’m staying there.’

The first thing I did when I got the check was I sent the picture of it to her. And then I sent it you guys. As soon as she saw it she called me and she was excited. She’s stuck at work right now though that’s why she’s not on, but she’s excited. She’s really excited. We put it in the bank account today. So we’re happy”

“It was very humbling, and it definitely is a learning process for anybody who starts your program. And I understood that what you get out of it is what you put into it. If you’re not marketing yourself, if you’re not putting yourself out there then the results will not be there.”

We’re so happy and appreciate that both of them stuck in there with us, fighting tooth and nail to make it happen. Cortez said he was going to sell the home before the end of the month and he made it happen. So, we definitely commend him for that. That’s what it’s all about.

It’s about clearing that head trash and just putting the work in. Just making it happen, against all odds. That’s all this is. It’s really cool to go through this process because it’s great to get that check, but you also learn so much about yourself. It’s like a whole journey within itself.

It’s like, you battling you. You learn a lot about you. If you take that time to listen, like Cortez said.

Being a Go Giver and advice to anyone on the fence.

Cortez is already on to the next one. Through his day job he met a customer who had just bought a piece of land with a mobile home on it. And he was talking about selling it. Cortez proposed that they work together to make some money off of it.

”I said, ‘It’s already set up. You charge the Lot Rent. I charged the rent.’ I said, ‘I’ll make money for 4 years. You’ll make money for a life time.”

That’s what we mean about bringing value for value, learning that it’s really not all about you. It’s more about how you can be The Go Giver. To give more than you receive. Because by giving more you’re always going to get paid out. The giver always gets paid.

So before we left Cortez we wanted to get him share some words that might inspire our readers and community members who are on the fence right now about getting engaged and taking action.

“Do it. It’s a lot simpler. When I say simpler, it’s like, you can do a wholesale job or you can do a buyer flip and it’s a lot less expensive than doing real rehab. The biggest thing is there’s a lot of mobile homes out there for everybody. They’re everywhere.

And you two are like the best mentors ever. You actually are very hands on. I know y’all have a ton of people that y’all deal with, but every chance that you get you give time to whoever needs it. And that’s something.

If somebody is interested in joining your program, they need to know that you’re going to hold them accountable.
Because once we set those goals, I knew you were going to be on us about it. And like you said, if I wouldn’t have called you on the day you were going to call me because you hadn’t heard from me.”
